The original York water chiller was installed before the roof was built. The 18 year old machine, operating on R22, had reached the end of its serviceable life. In order to save huge building costs, associated with removing the concrete and tile roof, Aircon Installations built a twin circuit water chiller, comprising two Daikin condenserless screw chillers onto a purpose built chassis.
Two ‘flat pack’ air cooled condensers were assembled above the Daikin machines, complete with inverter driven axial flow condenser fans. The condenser fans were ducted up to the discharge grating, therefore ensuring that condenser air short cycling would not take place, as previously happened with the original water chiller.
Working conditions were extremely tight, within the confines of the sloping roof structure, but the installation was completed in four days.
